Rehearsals have commenced!

And what a team we have! A group of five fearless singing actors, a super stage manager, and a wonderful quartet of design collaborators. (Please see the photo of Bryan Pollock's gorgeous set for this show.)
I realize how fearless one has to be to do a raunchy political satire-with-music, in this town, or maybe any town in Western Canada. (Actually, I think the music makes the raunch easier to take.) When we had finished our two days of table-work on the text--making sure everything was in the right place--the actors gave a stunningly good reading for our brilliant lighting designer, Itai Erdal. We were all screaming with laughter, but, at the end of the reading he told me how much he appreciated the fact that I'd had the courage to tell the truth about the way the world really works in this show: most of the theatre we see in Vancouver is very polite and conventional, especially in matters concerning sex, while this play is raunchy in the extreme, in terms of both hetero and homo sex. The audience will perhaps be shocked, horrified, delighted, appalled, amazed, disgusted-- some combination of the foregoing. We hope they will a) stay to the end; and b) tell their friends they HAVE to see this wild, crazy show.
